White Paper: Challenges Facing Medical Cannabis Statewide Implementation

In White Papers by feliciacarbajal

A new year means new beginnings, so as part of the state effort to regulate medical cannabis we’ve put together a White Paper to discuss some of the challenges facing statewide implementation today. Twenty years ago California voters approved Proposition 215, the Compassionate Use Act, exempting qualified patients from state drug laws on marijuana and ushering in the passage of other medical marijuana laws across the country. This was accomplished by patients sharing their stories of comfort with cannabis and building community partnerships to help those in need. Unfortunately, this tradition has been mostly forgotten as access has become easier …

SF Pride 2016

In Events by feliciacarbajal

CCA recently enjoyed a long weekend in the Bay Area to celebrate San Francisco Pride. After cannabis events on Thursday and Friday, we were excited to engage with an outside community over the weekend. Our Airbnb in the Outer Mission gave us a nice view of the city skyline (from “Jersey” we called it) and some perspective on the city. From Los Angeles, San Francisco can seem like one small place (with only 20% of the population), but the culture truly encompasses the entire Bay Area, which is nearly equal in size to Los Angeles County. They are ahead in …

SF Cannabis Events

While in the Bay Area for SF Pride, CCA had the opportunity to attend several cannabis events. It was a nice experience to see the contrast between southern and northern California events. First we enjoyed a Cannabis Community event and job fair at the 7 Stars dispensary in Richmond, CA. With over 20 companies present, including including Absolute Extracts/Care by Design, it was nice to see the industry making a full showing after last weeks raid. It was out of sight out of mind, as the representatives present hawked their wares to a packed room of patient and job seekers …

Autism One Review

California Cannabis Advocates recently returned from a trip to Chicago for the 15th Annual International Autism One Conference. It was a busy trip which included a panel discussion on cannabis, a presentation about activism in your community, and a pop-up My Health Freedom event at the MADE Gallery. The enthusiasm and warm-heartedness of the autism community was contagious. When we arrived at the conference on Thursday, it was easy to tell Autism One had expanded from last year—with 3 separate “tracks” for parents to select, one of which was focused on cannabinoid therapies. Cannabis booth space was also significantly expanded …

46th annual LA PRIDE PARADE

In Events by feliciacarbajal

Yesterday, under the My Health Freedom banner, the cannabis community came together to march in the LA Pride Parade through West Hollywood. In a celebration of 20 years of medical access and a repudiation of hatred, the community came together to celebrate the rights we all share. Despite the senseless act of violence perpetrated against the LGBTQ community in Orlando, thousands of well-wishers braved anxiety about their own safety to support the 46th annual Pride parade on Santa Monica Boulevard—lined 5 deep along most of the 2.5 mile parade route. The entire community showed it would not bow to hatred, …

City Council Hears Public Comment on LA Medical Marijuana Regulation

In Uncategorized by feliciacarbajal

As January 1, 2018 approaches the Los Angeles Cannabis Industry is scrambling to have their voices heard. With the recent DEA raid in Santa Rosa just days behind the community, all sides of this fight converge on City Hall. Today June 17, 2016 the LA City Council heard public comments on medical marijuana. The room was there to discuss Proposition D-compliant dispensaries and how to conform to the newly created medical marijuana state licensing system, increase penalties and enforcement to close down all illegal marijuana-related businesses, create a regulatory framework for the City to implement the Adult Use of Marijuana …

Perspective

As a child Los Angeles was my favorite place to visit. It only warranted 4 ‘are we there yet.’ It seemed like a million miles away from my Fresno home. It was the City of Angels, the city of Dreams—a place where my childhood fantasies were created and housed. Where Mickey and Minnie and all the beautiful people of the world lived. As an adult here now, I still love this city but for a different set of reasons. From the weather to the weed to the progressive mindset of most Angelenos. The good food and the melting pot that …

Abilities Los Angeles

In Events by feliciacarbajal

Last week CCA had the honor of sponsoring, presenting and hosting at the Los Angeles Abilities Expo, held at the Convention Center. With a total of over 7,000 guests, it was a busy weekend for us, even as the hours were constrained by the Super Bowl on Sunday. We got an amazing response all weekend, and we’re not just saying that because Los Angeles is home! Our presentation on Friday filled the 100-person workshop area to capacity, with many people parked in the back of the space. We were so happy to be able to direct so many patients to …
